The Otterhound Club

About Us
The Otterhound Club
We are a small but active representative Breed Club, registered as such with the Royal Kennel Club. Formed in 1978, our purpose is to promote, preserve and protect this historic but now vulnerable breed.
In addition to holding an Open Show and a Championship Show each year we organise regular get-together ‘walkies’. The Club is active in monitoring and promoting health within the breed as well as providing welfare assistance where the need arises in the rehoming of Otterhounds.
We have experienced breeders amongst our members who will happily give advice to anyone considering owning an Otterhound and we maintain a list of reputable breeders.

History
The Otterhound is an ancient British breed of scent hound, the first record of otter hunting was during the reign of Henry II, in the 1100s.
Today they are wonderful family companions, good with children and animals, and adapt to their environment and surroundings remarkably well.

Puppies
Otterhounds are a rare breed with less than 800 Otterhounds worldwide.
We maintain a list of UK breeders who will advise and assist if you are looking to add an Otterhound to your family.

Health
The Otterhound Club health sub-committee meet on a regular basis to discuss health related issues and maintain detailed health records of our breed. An annual health report is produced each year and circulated to members.
